The Sun

The sun rises
earlier in the day
The birds are aware
change is in the air
For them
it's instinctual
for us
something else
again

Hunger

I eat sorrow,
your life, my
loss, settles
in the esophagus
I push with effort
You move on through
chest, diaphragm,
other,
Forced into lower
extremities,
passing through
the ends of toes,
singeing
a molten liquid, returning
to ground
"ashes to ashes"
"dust to dust"

"ellecee"

Although opposite in character
this poem was inspired by

"The tree has entered my hands,
The sap has ascended my arms,
The tree has grown in my breast -
Downward,
The branches grow out of me, like arms"
