What
price love?
The
kind that bestows moist kisses
Gentle
touches
Bodies
entwined floating
in a
sea of bliss
shared
sleep
lovers’
dreams
the
litanies of needs met
What
price love?
The
kind that bears a grudge,
impatiently
forgiving
misdemeanors
Sleepless
nights
Restless
dreams
plans
fading into loss
The
litanies of needs unmet
What
price love?
The
kind that steals away,
nights
apart, hopes fading,
Blasphemies
spoken and unspoken
Points
taken
The
question unanswered
Tears
The
litanies of needs erased

so much is packed ino this... and a question all have asked at one time or another
ReplyDeleteSo well pondered, love does have its price, whichever way one looks at it.
ReplyDeleteA moving litany.
ReplyDeleteOops, I just double-checked the meaning of "litany" to make sure I was using the correct word. Apparently not! I discovered the definition includes "tedious". Your poem is not that!
ReplyDeleteThe litanies of needs erased...the ending of love. What price love? The repeating question takes us from beginning to ending.
ReplyDeleteI always say, if you want unconditional love, get a dog or seek God, because human love always has a price and expectations.
ReplyDeleteNice progression. I like it.
ReplyDeleteThe repetition is so effective, Ellecee, because the answer is different in each stanza. It also guides us through how a relationship can change over time, a kind of 'call and response' for those of us who have had similar experiences.
ReplyDeleteLove has a way of ending a way of slowly be grinded to silt
